We have officially entered autumn, but Memphis' temperatures are stubbornly settling on an eighty-degree average. While some complain, I commence in continuing an outdoor agenda for meals and gatherings!
Thus, I declare: Picnic season is far from over.
Whether the Levitt Shell's fall season music series, October's numerous beer festivals, or Indie Memphis' notable new outdoor film screenings, lawn entertainment is in the air. I urge you to take advantage of the prolonged warm weather (and minimized mosquito appearances) by picnicking with friends and family. I urge you to picnic like a legend with Humphrey's Prime Cut Shoppe.
If you aren't aware, Humphrey's is the butcher shop adjacent to the legendary Folk's Folly steak house, which was recently named "Best Steak" in the Memphis Flyer Best of Memphis awards. My special occasion setting of choice, Folk's Folly's differentiated flavors are conveniently available for pick-up or delivery through the next-door butcher shop. It's a brilliant notion, I know.
Humphrey's makes the online shopping process simple. The shop offers overnight deliveries of fresh, hand-cut prime steaks and sides straight to your doorstep. And while I've gifted the Memphis original steaks to relatives outside of Memphis over the past few holiday seasons, I was recently tempted to stop in the butcher shop myself to pick out a picnic spread.
A tenderloin technique was top-of-mind for last weekend's picnic, but I was pleased to see that Humphrey's offers salmon, crab cakes, lobster and even duck as additional proteins for pickup.
I grabbed a tray of yeast rolls from the refrigerated section, as well as a container of Humphrey's to-die-for pimento cheese spread. Humphrey's also makes gourmet egg, chicken and tuna salad recipes that continuously please the loyal customer and impress the newcomer.
Homemade potato chips -- perfectly packaged and ready for the picnic basket -- accompanied the pimento cheese, which we served on lightweight, mini bamboo plates. Of course, you could forego the tenderloin and go straight for a pimento cheese sandwich!
Toward the end of my and Alex's date night on the lawn, we pulled out a key lime pie to refresh our palates and nostalgically look back to summertime. The buttery crust and smooth, icebox filling were delightful and especially appropriate for a picnic affair. Perhaps next time, I'll pick up a pecan pie for cooler date nights indoors...
Here's to picnicking like a legend with Humphrey's. I hope you'll stop in or shop online yourself soon and let them know Caramelized sent you!
