Closing out the year in paradise was a particular treat. The Resort at Pelican Hill welcomed us to wind down 2019 in a soothing and serene setting on the coast of Newport Beach. Though widely known for its state-of-the-art golf course, Pelican Hill prompted an all-around relaxing retreat with just the right amount of adventure (and phenomenal food, of course).

THE BUNGALOWS

Typical hotel rooms are transformed into expansive bungalows at Pelican Hill, boasting an easygoing yet sophisticated mix of traditional and contemporary decor styles. The 15+ foot ceilings create an airy atmosphere—and the canopy bed frame is absolutely regal, especially when the gas fireplace directly across the way is ignited! A private patio with chairs, and a massive bathroom with jacuzzi tub and walk-in shower were bonuses. Considering the insane views around the property, it is a serious compliment that we didn’t want to leave the room.

THE VIEWS

Pelican Hill’s sunset is literally breathtaking; and if you notice the massive rotunda in the top right of the photo above, you’ll quickly understand why so many brides choose the resort from their wedding day! While we did not attend a Pelican Hill Wedding, I did tour the facilities with their darling team for an upcoming Southern Bride Magazine write-up. I also did experience a taste of the resort teams’s jaw-dropping event productions in the form of a New Years Eve blow-out in the lobby! We toasted with champagne and were enamored with the party details, including an ice luge and live band.

NEWPORT BEACH EATS

Our trip was brief, but our goal was to try a mix of neighborhood culinary destinations within minutes of the Pelican Hill property.

Malibu Farm was our first-stop lunch in Lido Marina Village. The beachy, organic restaurant is nestled between a curated collection of designer shops and boutiques. We ordered chopped salads, cauliflower pizzas and crudîtes, all of which were truly farm-fresh and delightful.

Dinner at Marche Moderne was decidedly divine. Classic French dishes and innovative takes on seafood and vegetables surprised our taste buds, from the soups and breads/butters to lobster raviolo (pictured below) and short ribs cooked and served in individual copper pots.

CRYSTAL COVE

A nostalgic, casual beach town sits just minutes from Pelican Hill’s property. Crystal Cove welcomes the beach bums, locals and visitors of all ages, offering walking trails, beautiful blue waves, and a local shake shack with outstanding milk shakes (get the Oreo, trust us). We waited in line for 45 minutes, but the sunny breeze kept us far from bothered.

LA HOT SPOTS

Before heading back to LAX for our flight, we somehow managed to fit three food stops in a three-hour period. Why? Why not.

Pink’s Hot Dogs + In N Out were necessary because Alex and I had yet to try them. We each took a bite to not spoil our appetites; but, indeed, they were memorable bites.

Elephante Santa Monica is known for its stunning spaces and arguably even trendier menu items. The tuna tartare, pastas, and pizzas were fantastic, especially with a spritz on the side! No weak link.
