A Pizza Party on the Pasture: Home Place for Your Next Glamping Getaway

We’re firing up fall in Como, Mississippi!

Have you ever hosted a pizza night? It’s undoubtedly one of my favorite party picks — not only because it’s one of my favorite food group combos (bread + cheese), but also because it’s an interactive, casual set-up for sharing a meal together with friends old and new. Guests can choose their toppings, take turns manning the fire, and everyone can take a slice and pick a winning pie at the end of the night.

If you’re looking for a picturesque slice of life, look no further than Home Place Pastures. The fifth-generation farm is not just the home of sustainably raised pigs and grass-fed cows as well as a darling general store/butcher/café with creative sandwiches and take-home cuts — it’s a dreamy, serene glamping destination that serves as the perfect palate for dining and sleeping under the stars.

We packed up my Roadshow BMW with my favorite gadget yet — the Gozney Roccbox, portable pizza oven — and headed down to Como to commence in pizza making with Home Place’s lead Marshall Bartlett and his wife Katie.

Here are tips to keep your pizza party stress-free and downright delicious:

PICK UP YOUR PIZZA DOUGH

Okay — if you’re a pro baker, you can ignore this tip, but I find it’s not worth the anxiety or risk for a foolproof foundation. I picked up 4 pizza dough balls from Pizzeria Trasimeno in Crosstown Concourse, who specialize in Neopolitan crust. The dough was airy, light — it was perfect, quite honestly.

PACK YOUR TOPPINGS

Base:

  • Tomato sauce

  • Pesto

  • Olive oil

Cheeses

  • Fresh Mozzarella

  • Shaved Parmesan

Bring a cozy change of clothes and the essentials for an overnight stay on the farm. Rent a beautiful canvass tent perfect for 2-4 people to enjoy — air mattresses and pillows are available for rent with nearby restroom access! Nestled in a shady grove of 200+ year old oaks, overlooking two lakes and beautiful pastures, the campsite is an awesome place to hang and enjoy the outdoors with friends, or take the family on an easy weekend getaway.
