A Quintessential Memphis Summer Must-Do: The Levitt Shell

One of my top ten Memphis experiences to date is a Levitt Shell concert. The unmatched sense of community, its feel-good atmosphere, an excuse to pack an adorable picnic, and the obvious array on talent on stage create a recipe I’d recommend no matter how high the Memphis summer heat index shows!

When the pandemic put a pause on live music and gatherings of any scale, the Levitt Shell was forced to cancel its spring, summer, and fall 2020 series that typically draw thousands from all zip codes and walks of life. I knew I had missed it, but upon returning this month for the introductory “Shell Yeah!” summer series, I felt right back at home.

The “Shell Yeah!” benefit series raises funds for the Levitt Shell, who is historically renowned for its free-of-charge concerts for the greater community. Sponsored by Roadshow BMW, which I now drive and absolutely adore, the elevated experience offers dedicated pods of six with an add-on picnic option (or you can bring your own!).

During our Shell Yeah! experience last week, we enjoyed some of Cooper Young’s best bites on the BMW deck, including Tsunami, 17 Berkshire, The Beauty Shop, and Restaurant Iris. I so appreciate the emphasis on local, especially from a food and beverage standpoint! It made me happy to see Crosstown beers and Mempops on tap during the show.

Roadshow BMW and I held a super fun Levitt Shell pod giveaway over on Instagram, but we hope you’ll mark your calendars for a future show! The series seems to sell out in advance, so pick your performer and plan accordingly here.

And thanks to Roadshow BMW for making the series possible!
